ACCIDENT REPORT FOR THE AMERICAN ALPINE CLUB
Smith Rock, Oregon: climber injured on the approach

The primary purpose of these experience reports and the Annual Report of Accidents in North American Mountaineering is to aid in the prevention of accidents.

Miss York Marble, 22, was heading for the Lower Gorge climbing areas at Smith Rock, when she slipped and tumbled an estimated 65 feet down the rock, slid another 125 feet and came to rest with multiple painful abrasions and lacerations. Her three companions kept her warm with down jackets on a very cold day and waited an estimated three hours for a high angle rope and litter extraction to a waiting ambulance. She was checked out at St. Charles Medical Center and went home.
